WHO?
My artistic name is Dykkun, – a mix between my real name and a Japanese honorific – current and only member of the Spacebar family, 19 years of age and counting. I was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to a really low income family, which has somehow pulled through and has given me the opportunity to do the things that I love, but not everything is eternal, that’s why I’m working as a freelance Manga artist, to survive.
I’ve always had a passion for art, graphite runs in the family blood. I’ve been drawing since I was eleven as a hobby, but just recently considered as a serious income source, having to start early at 16 at the peak of the pandemic, which really affected our family, postponing projects like my personal manga project, professional studies and future plans. Basically everything went to hell, but from experiences we learn, as they are for me the most precious things in life.
I like speaking english, I’d like to consider myself proficient in the tongue, at least enough not to cause accidents, learning languages is my second hobby and I’m currently trying to learn Japanese.. because why not? German, you're next!
WHY YOU?
This question always has been hard for me to answer, I don’t have a lot of self-esteem to spare and confidence levels sometimes are at the sea floor, but I’ve been trying to fix this, and I think working on this will help.
As I stated before, I have a huge passion for drawing, specially Manga which had an impact on me since I read my first series, Tokyo Ghoul by Ishida Sui, it was love at first sight for both the narrative and art style. I love what I do, and I really like learning new things and techniques to improve my results.
I like to be very professional, not because I like to be cold or sound uninterested, but because sometimes I get attached to people, and that really blurs the line between friendship and work, it's more complicated than that.
In a nutshell, I love discovering stories and learning about new characters, the wonders people can imagine and the beautiful worlds yet to be created, and I want to give life to that reality, because it's what I love.
